November! How Did That Happen?

So, November 1st just snuck right by me yesterday. Here we are with a brand new month and absolutely gorgeous weather to boot! It’s a few minutes after noon on Wednesday, the sun is shining, a lovely breeze is blowing through the house from the open living room window and the front door. It’s 67° and feels warmer than that. It should reach the lower 70’s by late this afternoon.

We are both recovering from a day out with the grand-dogs. Allergy meds were necessary this morning. Such is life. The only other thing that bothers me as much as pet dander is house dust and there is no way to escape that so I might as well make the best of it. Since the house is open and breeze blowing I might as well spend some time chasing dust bunnies anyway.

Normally Brad makes six cups of coffee each morning which gives each of us a large mug of coffee. Today was a two pot morning. We make six cups at a time and if we want more we just brew another pot. That way if we don’t want two mugs each we don’t end up tossing half of the coffee we brewed.

I’m glad we took advantage of early voting last week because I believe there will be a greater than normal turn out for this mid-term election. People are riled up and eager to vote. I don’t hear that much in our area about pro Democrat. Everyone is pretty much pissed off at the state of the economy, the Resident in the White House targeting our oil industry, cost of gasoline, food shortages, and so forth. We shall see. All we can do is play our part, vote and make our voices heard…if that helps with all the voter fraud going on these days. Sigh. But, once again, we do what we can and keep on keeping on!

It’s time to get another batch of smoked brisket and BBQ sauce from Hickory house. We get a couple of pounds and divide it up in 1/4 pound packages and freeze most of it and we always get extra sauce to freeze as well. We’ll probably do that on Friday. Brad has an appointment tomorrow and he’ll stop by Simmons Bank and close out that last account on his way and we’ll be through with that chore. Tomorrow wouldn’t be a good day to get the brisket so he’ll do it Friday as soon as they open. It’s not unusual for Hickory House to run out of smoked brisket if we wait to long to drop by. It goes fast!

Speaking of smoked meat. There is a BBQ joint in Sherman on Lamberth and Travis that I keep meaning to try. I go by there on the way home from the chiropractor each week and you can’t miss their humongous smoker out back. The business itself is to the right of the rock house and faces Travis. I stopped in a parking lot across the street to get this photo. I should have gotten a picture the last time I was by there when they had the smoker going. You can smell meat smoking a mile away when that puppy is going!

I didn’t count on being so sore after taking the pups in to the vet. My shoulders, arms, and wrists are bothering me but I’m determined to finish those green socks today!! I need to make sure I use my stretchy band for some upper body exercises today as well. Brad mounted an eye bolt on a door facing in the living room and it’s a perfect place to stand to do my exercises.

It’s time to decide what do do for lunch and I’m leaning toward a bowl of green salad with all the fixings. Have a wonderful Hump Day, ya’ll.

I am a Native Texan, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Catholic Convert residing in rural North East Texas since 1975 when I married my husband and this small town girl became a country girl. I was taught to knit at the age of ten and discovered the writings of Elizabeth Zimmerman shortly after I married. I learned to ‘unvent’ things as I went along, to create my own patterns and generally have a blast with yarn and needles. In the mid 1980’s I explored the idea of spinning my own yarn and eventually got interested in weaving on a floor loom. I have three spinning wheels and a 24″ four-shaft Herald floor loom that I purchased from a friend in the 1990’s. I also enjoy sewing, tatting and making rosaries. I have a work room that contains my fiber, yarn, floor loom, sewing machines, serger and rosary making supplies. I have a spinning corner in a bedroom next to my work room, both with north windows looking toward the creek.
