It Was A Dark And Stormy Night…

We were both enjoying a good night’s sleep when CRASH! BOOM! CRACK! The whole house shook from a lightening strike east of us. Yep. That got our attention. And was repeated at irregular intervals for over an hour. Fortunately we never lost power. Needless to say, we had a late morning. The sky is partly cloudy, sun warming the wet grass and rapidly reaching outdoor sauna status at 1:00 pm. There’s several inches of water in the rain gauge and we can hear water running in the creek 50 yards, more or less, from the house. Time to set the insect repellent out where it’s handy. The mosquitos will be a problem pretty soon. And chiggers. It’s June. Mustn’t forget the chiggers, better known as red bugs up north.

We have nothing in particular to do today. I saw my physical therapist yesterday for my PT eval and he gave me a couple of exercises to do for my neck. It already feels better after the massage treatment he gave me and when I turn my head to the left and back to the right it doesn’t catch like it has been. Progress! I’ll see him twice a week for six weeks and then I should be good to go and just keep up with the exercises at home. My goal is to get to the point that the chiropractor can manually adjust my neck once again. It’s too stiff and tight to cooperate since last fall. We’ll get there. It’s just stiff from the arthritis and I’ve put off doing anything about it long enough.

I still have a couple of inches worth of ribbing to do on the Trekking socks and I worked on the Malabrigo socks for a bit yesterday. The Malabrigo is a plumper yarn and the size 0 needle works just fine on the ribbing. I tried both the Trekking and the Malabrigo socks on and they will be perfect when I get them finished. I’ve been putting each pair of dirty socks in a small mesh bag of it’s own and tossing them in the washer with my delicate loads. I’m thinking I should wait until I have several pairs that need laundering and put them in the washer on the hand wash cycle. I might need to buy a few more wire sock blockers eventually.

Later…

Fast forward to 8:00 pm. Once again. Where did my day go? Uhm. Knitting and reading. That’s where. At least I’m making progress. We had a light dinner and I’ve got Midsomer Murder’s streaming on Pluto TV via Roku. Just finished watching “Shot at Dawn” and now “The Killings of Copenhagen” has started. So, I’m headed back to my knitting and a quiet evening at home.

Have a blessed Thursday evening, ya’ll.

I am a Native Texan, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Catholic Convert residing in rural North East Texas since 1975 when I married my husband and this small town girl became a country girl. I was taught to knit at the age of ten and discovered the writings of Elizabeth Zimmerman shortly after I married. I learned to ‘unvent’ things as I went along, to create my own patterns and generally have a blast with yarn and needles. In the mid 1980’s I explored the idea of spinning my own yarn and eventually got interested in weaving on a floor loom. I have three spinning wheels and a 24″ four-shaft Herald floor loom that I purchased from a friend in the 1990’s. I also enjoy sewing, tatting and making rosaries. I have a work room that contains my fiber, yarn, floor loom, sewing machines, serger and rosary making supplies. I have a spinning corner in a bedroom next to my work room, both with north windows looking toward the creek.
