Tomorrow is the day! We pick up the puppies at the breeder. Audrey talked to his wife on the phone today and she emailed photos of the two female pups they set aside for us. We are all very excited and Audrey is beside herself. Brad and I are relieved that finding pups was this easy and that they are not a long drive from us, just a little further east and south of where we live.
Waya is missing her brother and the puppies will be a welcome distraction. She has very strong maternal instincts that became obvious in December when baby Gabriel was born. We saw him later in the day, a few hours after he was born, and Waya hovered and kept her eye on whomever was holding the baby. She is a great dog and mothers everyone when they don’t feel well. Once when Brad and I were visiting the farm she laid down beside the chair where I was sitting and started licking my left ankle. She knew my arthritis was bothering me! I wasn’t limping or even using my cane, but Waya knew.
Waya isn’t the only animal at the farm missing Zev it seems. Waya was at the barn with Audrey, Grover the bull saw Waya and kept looking around and then back at Waya. He was looking for Zev. And so were the calves. Zev loved to play with the calves and Grover would groom Zev as if he was one of the calves.
There is a good chain link fence surrounding the yard to keep the dogs from running out in the pasture unless they are let out. I’m pretty sure the kids have been making sure there are no puppy size holes along the yard fence.
It’s nice that David’s folks could be here when Audrey brings the pups home. They will be here a couple of more days and then head home to South Carolina. We’ll meet them for dinner before they have to leave and have some down time to visit and relax. They are a few years older than Brad and I and are as tired of traveling as we are. It was such a blessing when Audrey and the kids moved back to Texas. Then she met and married David and we got to meet his folks. Life is good again at the family farm.
Audrey showed baby Gabriel the photos of the puppies and his face lit up. That is going to be one excited little boy tomorrow. I can hardly wait!
