Inclement Weather and Indoor Activities

It stormed off and on most of last night and kept us awake for quite awhile. Just about the time we’d drop back off to sleep we’d wake up to another clap of thunder loud enough to shake the house. It was a wild night to say the least and we had less than an inch of rain. And now it’s humid enough outside to drown frogs. Ugh. The wind is kicking up again so maybe some nice weather will blow in soon. At least the sun is out now.

I picked up a grocery order at Albertson’s. I was surprised at how quickly they would let me pick it up compared to the last few orders. It was just before noon when I placed the online order and they had it ready before 4:00 pm which was really nice. The fridge and pantry are fully stocked again and all I have to do is decide what to make for dinner in awhile. Brad is down at the shop puttering away while I stay in the house enjoying the A/C.

I’ve always got knitting and reading to occupy me but I finally got around to dusting off the spinning wheel and pulling out some gorgeous purple combed top. I already had two bobbins spun and there is enough fiber for four more. I’ll do some two-ply yarn using my jumbo bobbins when all the singles are spun.

It’s time to make another pot of soup or stew or something on that order. I’ve got what I need for Black Bean Soup or my Southwest Soup. I just need to thaw some ground beef for Southwest Soup. Or, I might just thaw the ground beef for hamburger patties later and go ahead and make the Black Bean Soup. I’m sure Brad would love some cornbread to go with the soup.

I just walked down to the shop to take Brad a beer and ask him what he’d like for dinner. We’re having scrambled egg tacos. Fast and easy to make whenever he gets back to the house.

I was just looking back at my Kobo downloads and I’ve read sixty books in three months. Didn’t realize I’d read than many. I love that I don’t have to recharge my e-reader very often. A couple of times a week does it and that’s with me reading every day for the last three months. Not bad! Much better than the Amazon Kindle Fire e-reader, that’s for sure!

When I finish a couple of more washcloths I’m going to work on my hand-spun wool prayer shawl. I’m not sure how long it will be and I figure I’ll have to add borders out of some different hand-spun but it is nice to work with. I’m alternating two shades of purple and I really like the effect I’m getting.

I’ve also got the hand towel to finish as well. And three pairs of socks…

Time to get out of this recliner and do something constructive in the kitchen. Hopefully, we don’t have any storms headed our way tonight and it will be good sleeping. All. Night. Have a blessed Monday evening, ya’ll.

I am a Native Texan, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Catholic Convert residing in rural North East Texas since 1975 when I married my husband and this small town girl became a country girl. I was taught to knit at the age of ten and discovered the writings of Elizabeth Zimmerman shortly after I married. I learned to ‘unvent’ things as I went along, to create my own patterns and generally have a blast with yarn and needles. In the mid 1980’s I explored the idea of spinning my own yarn and eventually got interested in weaving on a floor loom. I have three spinning wheels and a 24″ four-shaft Herald floor loom that I purchased from a friend in the 1990’s. I also enjoy sewing, tatting and making rosaries. I have a work room that contains my fiber, yarn, floor loom, sewing machines, serger and rosary making supplies. I have a spinning corner in a bedroom next to my work room, both with north windows looking toward the creek.
