After taking the weekend off from posting on my blog I am back to work. There’s not been much going on, just puttering around the house and doing a little cooking.
I finished the last of the variegated brown/white yarn on the cone and managed a total of four face cloths for Brad’s bath with only a tad left over. The size 8 needle with the coned cotton is much, much easier on my hands so I’ll stick to that in the future.

I cooked a roast in the crockpot with new potatoes, carrots and onion yesterday and today I made stew, also in the crockpot. I cut up the veggies and the roast and tossed it in the shallower crock insert, added water and a can of peas and let it simmer. Later I made cream gravy in a skillet and added that and some red wine to the stew. Oh. My. It’s awesome!
Brad is on his way home from his monthly training meeting at Ladonia PD in Fannin County. He had hoped to be home by now, but Chief Day had quite a bit to cover. Anyway, there is hot stew waiting for him if he’s hungry and I know he’ll need to wind down, have a hot shower and give his feet a soak in Epsom salts before bedtime.
There was absolutely nothing on television worth watching today and I couldn’t get interested in streaming video…wasn’t even in the mood for Bongino for some reason. Well, I know the reason. I’m just not in the mood for a rehash of ‘Clinton vs. Trump’ now that the Durham report is being cussed and discussed as details are coming out. I’ve read Dan’s books, “Spygate” and “Exonerated,” on the subject and none of it surprised me in the least. It’s just the rest of the world playing catch up at this point. I don’t believe for one moment that anything will be done about it. I don’t see any actual arrests or trials forthcoming, but who knows? I don’t care anymore. Politics is corrupt and I don’t trust anyone in the government anymore so why bother?
Brad had to reschedule our regular Wednesday morning appointments with the chiropractor, and an afternoon dentist appointment for him. Our guy from Webb Electric will be here first thing that morning and begin work on replacing outdoor lighting and putting up an automatic outdoor light on Brad’s shop building east of the house. When he is done we will be able to flip a switch and see all the way down to the creek and down to the shop at night. We’re getting new bulbs in the overhead fixtures in the garage. What we’ve got are unreliable bulbs that won’t even come on when it’s damp. I believe we will have LED bulbs as replacements. I thought we would have to replace the entire fixtures in the garage ceiling, but not the case it seems!
We need a good light at the back door inside the garage and a new porch light bulb as well. That fixture is fine, but it will get an LED bulb to give us better light at night.
The dishwasher is lulling me with it’s soft swishing sounds. I swear, that thing can put me to sleep in no time, unlike the previous, horrible LG dishwasher. I hated that thing and one of the selling points was how quiet it was supposed to be. Yeah. Right. It was quiet all aright…for about a month.
We’ve been in this house since June of 1989 and this is the fourth dishwasher. The first one was an el cheapo model that the contractor chose and installed. Next came a GE that I was never happy with. Then the LG. Now we have all new Whirlpool appliances in the kitchen starting in the summer of 2020. First we bought a new fridge, then a few weeks later the dishwasher arrived. Last November the range was delivered. We are thrilled with the new appliances. Now all we need to do is get rid of the old GE clothes dryer and replace it with a Maytag to go with the clothes washer.
I had called Brad a little while ago when he hadn’t checked in since I expected to be home and he didn’t pick up, had to call me right back. He just called again to say he had stopped to get something to eat and was getting off the main highway and would see me shortly. He said he thinks that the problem he had trying to answer the phone before was because he was standing next to the pickup talking to Chief Day when I called and the truck’s bluetooth was trying to answer the phone. We’ve run into that before when he was too close to the truck and got a call.
I’ve never set up the bluetooth settings in my SUV and have no intention of doing so. He has nothing but problems with that in his pickup and I’m just not going there in the SUV. I don’t talk on the phone while I’m driving, even hand’s free. I call before I’m getting ready to come home from shopping or an appointment to let Brad know I’m on the way home and I don’t remember the last time I had a call come in while I was driving.
I just started the sixth book in the Cat Who series. Qwilleran has inherited the Klingenschoen fortune and things are getting interesting…
