Love That Coned Cotton Yarn

The second shelf from the bottom of this metal rack is where most of my coned, worsted cotton, yarn is stored. There are three rows deep of cones. I keep a basket in the living room under my desk for what I am working on at the time.

There are some single skeins of cotton yarn in the bottom of the basket that I will use as well.

I finished the hand towel for Audrey yesterday and all it needs is a button. I looked thru my button box and can’t find what I want so I’ll make a stop at Jo-Ann’s and see what I can find. I think a blue or yellow button will do nicely.

I like knitted hand towels and have several in the kitchen. This one hangs next to the kitchen sink.

I found a misplaced knitting needle with a half finished cotton dishcloth on it in the basket under the table next to my recliner and finished that last night. I didn’t have enough yarn left on the cone for another full dishcloth so I used what I had for a textured cloth and finished with another color.

I’m going to work on some crocheted pot holders next. I need a couple of new ones and I can add some to the box of dishcloths and towels for Audrey.

I am a Native Texan, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Catholic Convert residing in rural North East Texas since 1975 when I married my husband and this small town girl became a country girl. I was taught to knit at the age of ten and discovered the writings of Elizabeth Zimmerman shortly after I married. I learned to ‘unvent’ things as I went along, to create my own patterns and generally have a blast with yarn and needles. In the mid 1980’s I explored the idea of spinning my own yarn and eventually got interested in weaving on a floor loom. I have three spinning wheels and a 24″ four-shaft Herald floor loom that I purchased from a friend in the 1990’s. I also enjoy sewing, tatting and making rosaries. I have a work room that contains my fiber, yarn, floor loom, sewing machines, serger and rosary making supplies. I have a spinning corner in a bedroom next to my work room, both with north windows looking toward the creek.
