80° For Christmas? In Texas?

When we think of Christmas in Texas this is what we have in mind. We don’t get much snow to speak of but we do get an occasional ice storm or a bit of freezing rain. Actually, this photo is from November 2019. Still. December…cold weather…yeah, not always.

The forecast for Christmas Day in our little corner of NE Texas is 80°. Yup. That’s right. Even for Texas that is a bit extreme as far as unseasonably warm for this time of year. But, we take what we get, as my grandmother was fond of saying.

Brad and I are both feeling kinda blah this week what with sinus, cough and sore throats. No fever, nothing bad, just basically icky. So, I decided to boost our spirits and finally got that pan of blueberry crisp in the oven to bake. It’s got about 15 min left to go. Brad is down at his workshop and will walk back in shortly to the smell of fresh baking.

I’ve been dealing with a cranky computer mouse lately and finally decided to replace it. The replacement came today and it’s awesome! Super quiet and fits my hand so much better than any other mouse I’ve ever used. I have small hands and a too large mouse can make my right hand ache after awhile. Well, not with this baby! It’s a “Shhh Mouse” and I found it on Amazon. I don’t order much from them these days but I’ve never found a silent mouse anywhere around here and I don’t feel like going shopping anyway, so I caved.

I had two packages today at the post office. I had forgotten about the other one. It’s not something that I sat down and ordered, but I had recently renewed, and upgraded, my Daily Wire account and they sent me another coffee tumbler!

I’m finally back to knitting on my pullover sweater and hope to have the first sleeve finished before bedtime. I’ve made regular decreases along the underside of the sleeve and it’s time to knit without decreasing for several inches before I do the final decreases leading up to the ribbing. I’ll get a photo when I’ve finished the sleeve.

I’ve got one of my essential oil diffusers going in the living room with Thieves oil and Frankincense oil in it and it smells wonderful. And it helps kill germs in the air, too.

Well, the oven timer just went off, I’ve got the blueberry crisp out of the oven, and Brad just walked in the door! Perfect timing…

I am a Native Texan, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Catholic Convert residing in rural North East Texas since 1975 when I married my husband and this small town girl became a country girl. I was taught to knit at the age of ten and discovered the writings of Elizabeth Zimmerman shortly after I married. I learned to ‘unvent’ things as I went along, to create my own patterns and generally have a blast with yarn and needles. In the mid 1980’s I explored the idea of spinning my own yarn and eventually got interested in weaving on a floor loom. I have three spinning wheels and a 24″ four-shaft Herald floor loom that I purchased from a friend in the 1990’s. I also enjoy sewing, tatting and making rosaries. I have a work room that contains my fiber, yarn, floor loom, sewing machines, serger and rosary making supplies. I have a spinning corner in a bedroom next to my work room, both with north windows looking toward the creek.
