December in Texas: A/C or Heat?

It’s December 17th. Most people would have their furnace on about now. What’s that you say? It’s 75° outside? In Texas? In December? Yup. Sad, but true. And not a nice 75° either, but a muggy, it’s going to rain any minute 75° day. So, we’ve had the A/C on for a couple of days now. But that’s OK! Because tomorrow night it will be below freezing.

You heard me. Below. Freezing. Welcome to Texas. As a result of the cool/warm/cold/warm/cold weather our allergies are acting up and both Brad and I have congestion, sneezing, sinus drainage and sore throats. And now I’m beginning to feel achy. So much for doing my baking today. But, I’ve got homeopathic stuff to take that should keep me out of the doctors office this time. And, tomorrow is another day!

In addition to baking cookies (I still have all my ingredients sitting out on the kitchen counter) I have two pints of fresh blueberries in the fridge that I’m going to use for blueberry crisp. Yum!

We had more homemade chicken soup for lunch and we still have chili in the fridge and cornbread to go with it, comfort food for sure! I strained the broth I made, froze two quarts of broth and topped off the existing pot of soup with the extra broth. The fridge and the freezer are full so we don’t need to go to town for anything soon.

The grandchildren are feeling the same way we are and will stay home from church this Sunday. Baby Gabriel is sick for the first time and doesn’t quite know what to think about the stuff coming out of his little nose when he sneezes! Bless his heart. It can be tough being a baby. He’ll be a year old in a few days. Where did the time go?

Audrey has a use for the used king size mattress topper that we no longer need since we bought new beds. She’s going to cut it up to make cushions for dog beds and use what’s left over to insulate the chicken coop! Smart lady! Poor old Zev fell off the bed the other night (he likes to sleep with the kids) and hurt himself when he hit the floor. He and Waya need their own beds. On the floor! Somehow though, I don’t see Waya falling off the bed like her dufus brother. He is such a dork.

Zev being a dork…

It’s nearly dinner time and I need to see if Brad wants chili to eat or if there is something else he’d rather have. It’s been a quiet day at home and he just got through emailing the electrician to go ahead with the lighting repairs on the house. We’ll both feel better with new lighting in the garage and outdoors as well. Have a blessed Friday evening, ya’ll.

I am a Native Texan, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Catholic Convert residing in rural North East Texas since 1975 when I married my husband and this small town girl became a country girl. I was taught to knit at the age of ten and discovered the writings of Elizabeth Zimmerman shortly after I married. I learned to ‘unvent’ things as I went along, to create my own patterns and generally have a blast with yarn and needles. In the mid 1980’s I explored the idea of spinning my own yarn and eventually got interested in weaving on a floor loom. I have three spinning wheels and a 24″ four-shaft Herald floor loom that I purchased from a friend in the 1990’s. I also enjoy sewing, tatting and making rosaries. I have a work room that contains my fiber, yarn, floor loom, sewing machines, serger and rosary making supplies. I have a spinning corner in a bedroom next to my work room, both with north windows looking toward the creek.
