Good Day to Knit

My get-up-and-go has got up and gone. The Tempur Pedic beds can’t get here soon enough. I’ve got to get some sleep. If I try to read I can’t keep my eyes open so I’ll pick a knitting project to keep my attention for awhile.

Brad made a run in to the coffee shop for breakfast croissants and I made a pot of coffee that was ready when he got back. At some point I need to get to the post office to pick up our mail and a few packages. Brad doesn’t need to be going up and down the steep stairs at the post office so I’ll take care of that. His knee and hip are both much better and he doesn’t need any set backs with healing.

I’m watching “To Catch a Smuggler” on National Geographic where they are filming in Rome. It’s been an eye opener. How stupid can people be? One young man was amazed that he was in trouble when six packages of heroin were found in his luggage. He ‘was only transporting it’. Seriously? How thick can you get? Apparently business has been slow and he needed the money.

Now they are searching for explosives after another passenger tests positive on his hands. Turns out he had e-cigarettes in his luggage and one of them leaked. Seems those things contain glycerin. Same thing happened earlier with a female passenger and it turned out her face cream contained glycerin. Note to self: Don’t pack anything containing glycerin if traveling. Sheesh.

It was a nice feeling to get the hat project finished fairly quickly and I’d like to finish one of my pairs of socks currently on the needles. I have three that only need the ribbing finished and it seems to be going very slowly. I still need to soak the hat and block it. I also have two scarves I’m working on as well. Having made some progress on the Hitchhiker scarf I wound some mini skeins into a ball for a Mini Skein Sampler scarf. I’ve knitted one of them before and enjoyed it. I am working on 55 stitches with a size 3 needle the pattern calls for a increase at the end of the right side and a decrease at the end of the wrong side. When it is time to change to the next yarn the pattern calls for a K 2 tog, YO across the needle on the wrong side. It’s another pattern that doesn’t require a lot of brain cells. I’ll post a photo when I’ve changed colors a couple of times.

I am a Native Texan, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Catholic Convert residing in rural North East Texas since 1975 when I married my husband and this small town girl became a country girl. I was taught to knit at the age of ten and discovered the writings of Elizabeth Zimmerman shortly after I married. I learned to ‘unvent’ things as I went along, to create my own patterns and generally have a blast with yarn and needles. In the mid 1980’s I explored the idea of spinning my own yarn and eventually got interested in weaving on a floor loom. I have three spinning wheels and a 24″ four-shaft Herald floor loom that I purchased from a friend in the 1990’s. I also enjoy sewing, tatting and making rosaries. I have a work room that contains my fiber, yarn, floor loom, sewing machines, serger and rosary making supplies. I have a spinning corner in a bedroom next to my work room, both with north windows looking toward the creek.
