Up Before The Sun

I woke up earlier than usual today, before the sun was up, and it’s just now beginning to peek through the trees at 6:55 am. It’s 75° outside but it feels cooler than than. No breeze to speak of. Just still and quiet. When I stepped out to get this photo I startled a hawk who flew up from the top of the pine tree, calling loudly as he flew away.

I’ve got errands to run later and the doctor wants to take a look at my arm where something bit me. It’s not serious but I may need an injection to calm it down. I still need to pick up a non-stick 2 quart saucepan to use for making the homemade play dough. I’ll make one or two batches and see how it turns out and I may let Sarah and Rachel have a go at it when they come out to visit soon.

One chore I need to tackle soon is cleaning windows. It’s been too long and I’m tired of streaky windows and dirty screens. It’s easy to get most of the windows cleaned because all but three of them are double-hung windows and can be tilted inside for cleaning. The screens will be a chore and some of them need to have the mesh replaced. It’s been a long time since I did anything like that and I may need help this time around.

Brad is up and it’s time to make coffee and have some breakfast.

I am a Native Texan, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Catholic Convert residing in rural North East Texas since 1975 when I married my husband and this small town girl became a country girl. I was taught to knit at the age of ten and discovered the writings of Elizabeth Zimmerman shortly after I married. I learned to ‘unvent’ things as I went along, to create my own patterns and generally have a blast with yarn and needles. In the mid 1980’s I explored the idea of spinning my own yarn and eventually got interested in weaving on a floor loom. I have three spinning wheels and a 24″ four-shaft Herald floor loom that I purchased from a friend in the 1990’s. I also enjoy sewing, tatting and making rosaries. I have a work room that contains my fiber, yarn, floor loom, sewing machines, serger and rosary making supplies. I have a spinning corner in a bedroom next to my work room, both with north windows looking toward the creek.
