Sunday With Family

Stock pond at the farm.

Today we start with church and end at the farm celebrating Rachel’s 12th birthday. Her mom has a brisket to BBQ with potato salad and other goodies to go along with it. The cake is taken care of and all we need to do is bring the beer. Easy Peasy.

One day this week Rachel will come out to our house for the day and enjoy some time with her grandad and me. We always make sure that each one of them has a day to spend with us as part of their birthday celebration.

I’ll be sure to take the camera with me this time. Can’t believe I forgot it last week for the 4th of July. I’d like to get some photos of Grover and the herd as well as the horses if possible. And this time I’ll get better photos of the chickens by taking them from inside their enclosure. I’m still learning the names of the hens and how to tell them apart.

Rachel is a very energetic young lady, very mature for her age with the same wicked sense of humor and sarcastic bent as her mother and grandmother. She cuts her siblings no slack but has a big heart and is totally loyal to family. She loves animals and is a talented artist. And she absolutely dotes on her baby brother, Gabriel, who will soon be 7 months old.

We are all looking forward to the day together and are very thankful for our many blessings.

I am a Native Texan, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Catholic Convert residing in rural North East Texas since 1975 when I married my husband and this small town girl became a country girl. I was taught to knit at the age of ten and discovered the writings of Elizabeth Zimmerman shortly after I married. I learned to ‘unvent’ things as I went along, to create my own patterns and generally have a blast with yarn and needles. In the mid 1980’s I explored the idea of spinning my own yarn and eventually got interested in weaving on a floor loom. I have three spinning wheels and a 24″ four-shaft Herald floor loom that I purchased from a friend in the 1990’s. I also enjoy sewing, tatting and making rosaries. I have a work room that contains my fiber, yarn, floor loom, sewing machines, serger and rosary making supplies. I have a spinning corner in a bedroom next to my work room, both with north windows looking toward the creek.
