Time For A Dietary Detox

I’ve had more than my share of pain medications and antibiotics this year and I’m looking forward to seeing our Naturopath this month. Dr. Shawn Sieracki has the Whole Body Healing Center in Lewisville, Texas, a little over an hours drive from here.

Now it’s time to flush all of that out of my system and work on losing some more weight. The change in diet will be supplemented with homeopathic drops to detox liver, kidneys, lungs and in my case sinuses as well. I will cut out dairy, sweets, starches and fast food and give my digestion a rest. For the first few days I like to do a juice fast with freshly juiced veggies and fruit.

Our Breville juicer and Oster blender do a good job for me. I like to juice a carrot or two, an apple, an orange, a handful of spinach, a generous slice of fresh ginger, cucumber and some celery. I will have a large glass three times a day for three days, drink water with lemon juice in it several times a day and snack on carrot and celery sticks and sliced apple if I need more on my stomach.

On day four I have the juice for breakfast, fresh green salad with vinegar and oil for lunch. I like to add some sliced radish, English cucumber and red onion to my salad. I keep balsamic vinegar and olive oil on hand to use for dressing. I’ll have chicken or fish cooked on the convection oven setting along with steamed veggies for dinner. I like zucchini, yellow squash and broccoli steamed together.

Two or three times a week I will have a smoothie for breakfast. I’ll juice carrots, apple and orange and pour that into the blender and add a cup of frozen mixed fruit. I like a blend of peach, strawberry, mango and pineapple. I add bee pollen and some protein supplement powder.

By the end of the first week I will begin to add red meat to my diet again and stick with steamed veggies on the side. The only snacks I’ll have will be carrot and celery sticks, apple slices or orange segments and I’ll stick to the green salad for lunch for a couple of weeks.

The change in diet will go a long way to boosting my energy and clearing my head. I tend to eat smaller portions and be less likely to overeat and slow down my digestion. Healthy fats are a good thing for a balanced diet. Chicken with the skin on is actually a good thing!

I am a Native Texan, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Catholic Convert residing in rural North East Texas since 1975 when I married my husband and this small town girl became a country girl. I was taught to knit at the age of ten and discovered the writings of Elizabeth Zimmerman shortly after I married. I learned to ‘unvent’ things as I went along, to create my own patterns and generally have a blast with yarn and needles. In the mid 1980’s I explored the idea of spinning my own yarn and eventually got interested in weaving on a floor loom. I have three spinning wheels and a 24″ four-shaft Herald floor loom that I purchased from a friend in the 1990’s. I also enjoy sewing, tatting and making rosaries. I have a work room that contains my fiber, yarn, floor loom, sewing machines, serger and rosary making supplies. I have a spinning corner in a bedroom next to my work room, both with north windows looking toward the creek.
