More Good Stuff

I’ve had problems with dry skin for ages and I’m always on the lookout for a good moisturizer for my hands since I’ve got my hands in water a lot during the day and I do a lot of knitting and spinning.

There are two products I keep on hand aside from my Simplified Soap products. One I found at a local spa. It’s called Whoopie®! Cream Shea Butter by Farmhouse Fresh. The other is Everything Balm by Goodies Unlimited that I came across at the DFW Fiberfest on my first visit.

A little bit will do it with the Whoopie! Cream. It is great on dry hands and smells wonderful! The Everything Balm is THE best thing for dry, cracked skin. It’s great for itchy psoriasis and rough, dry feet. We like to use it on cuts and irritated skin since it is antiseptic and healing. I also use it when I’ve had my hands in water a lot. And when I plan to do some silk spinning I start a couple of weeks ahead and give myself a good manicure followed by cuticle oil and the Everything Balm daily until my cuticles and fingers have no rough spots to snag the silk as I spin.

I’m also fond of diffusing essential oils and finally found a diffuser that I like that is easy to use and clean. It is the Pure Bliss made by Melaleuca. You can set it to run and shut off after awhile, three different timed settings. And it has a variety of colors you can pick for lighting. I keep this one next to my bed and another one in the living room. I mainly use two blends in the house, Lemon & Lavender in the bedroom to help me get to sleep and Thieves & Frankincense in the living room for the spicy, clean scent to freshen up the room.

I buy essential oils from both Melaleuca and Young Living. The first oil blend I ever used from Young Living was their Purification Oil that a friend gave me to treat a brown recluse spider bite. It worked! In 48 hours it was almost entirely gone and it kept me out of the doctor’s office and off antibiotics. We keep it on hand. Always. Same with the Thieves blend. I don’t know anyone else besides Young Living that has Thieves Oil and we go through a lot of it.

Other oils like Lavender, Lemon, Lime, Orange, Grapefruit, Frankincense and others I buy from either YL or Melaleuca.

I am a Native Texan, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Catholic Convert residing in rural North East Texas since 1975 when I married my husband and this small town girl became a country girl. I was taught to knit at the age of ten and discovered the writings of Elizabeth Zimmerman shortly after I married. I learned to ‘unvent’ things as I went along, to create my own patterns and generally have a blast with yarn and needles. In the mid 1980’s I explored the idea of spinning my own yarn and eventually got interested in weaving on a floor loom. I have three spinning wheels and a 24″ four-shaft Herald floor loom that I purchased from a friend in the 1990’s. I also enjoy sewing, tatting and making rosaries. I have a work room that contains my fiber, yarn, floor loom, sewing machines, serger and rosary making supplies. I have a spinning corner in a bedroom next to my work room, both with north windows looking toward the creek.
